Love fulfills (all of) God’s “Law”

(This is what we do, if we love God and love others…)

Owe nothing to anyone—

…except for our obligation to love one another.

If we love others, we will fulfill the requirements of God’s law.

For the commandments say,

“You must not commit adultery.

You must not murder.

You must not steal.

You must not covet.”

These  …and other such commandments — are summed up in this one commandment:

“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

(Because…)

Love does no wrong to others,

…love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.

This is all the more urgent,

…for we know how late it is;

time is running out.

Wake up,

…for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

The night is almost gone; …the day of salvation will soon be here.

So let us remove our dark deeds

…like dirty clothes, …and put on the shining armor of right living.

Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see.

We must not participate

…in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness,

…or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living,

…or in quarreling and jealousy.

Instead,   …let us clothe ourselves with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.

…and let is not allow ourselves to think about ways to indulge our evil desires.

“Listen, (believers)!

The Lord is our God,

      …the Lord alone.

And we must love the Lord our God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our strength.

And we must commit ourselves wholeheartedly to the commands  (He has given us).

(We must) repeat them again and again to our children.

(We must) Talk about them when we are at home and when we are on the road,

…when we are going to bed and when we are getting up…”
