​Still More Regulations …Continued 


“You must use accurate scales, when you weigh out merchandise, and you must use full and honest measures. 


Yes, always use honest weights and measures, so that you may enjoy a long life, in the land the Lord, your God, is giving you. 


All who cheat, with dishonest weights and measures, are detestable to the Lord your God…


“Never forget what the Amalekites did to you, as you came from Egypt. 


They attacked you, when you were exhausted and weary, and they struck down those, who were straggling behind. 


They had no fear of God. 


Therefore, when the Lord, your God, has given you rest, from all your enemies, in the land He is giving you, as a special possession, you must destroy the Amalekites …and erase their memory from under heaven. 


Never forget this!

Today, Jewish Law is called the “Halakah” , which literally means “that by which one walks.” 


It is comprised of the laws laid out in the Torah and the Talmud …and the traditions that have evolved from interpretations of these laws.


Almost every aspect of Jewish life and every act of everyday living — from eating, to dressing, to working — has some religious aspect attached to it. 


Almost all aspects of life are governed by strict religious practices and rules… for Orthodox Jews.


Jews regard it as a duty, to observe the Sabbath …and all Jewish holidays, to eat certain foods and abstain from others,  to perform specific rituals - like the lighting of candles, …and to pray and attend the synagogue regularly.


Jesus clarified these practices, for the Pharisees and Sadducees, when He was a Rabbi, here on earth, almost two thousand years ago. He said:


“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law, or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill…


For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished. 


Whoever, then, annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, …such a person shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; …but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 


For I say to you, that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.”


This is Matthew’s quote of Jesus’ words in chapter 5: verses 17-20 of his gospel.


This is God’s words for all of God’s people.
