1244 - Psalm 101

Psalm 101

A psalm of David.

I will sing of your love and justice, Lord.

I will praise you with songs.

I will be careful to live a blameless life—when will you come to help me?

I will lead a life of integrity, in my own home.

I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar.

I hate all who deal crookedly;

I will have nothing to do with them.

I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil.

I will not tolerate people, who slander their neighbors.

I will not endure conceit and pride.

I will search for faithful people, to be my companions.

Only those, who are above reproach,  will be allowed to serve me.

I will not allow deceivers, to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence.

My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip.

Psalm 101

This Psalm brought to mind an old hymn called:

The Kingdom of God

The lyrics go like this…

The kingdom of God is justice and joy;

For Jesus restores what sin would destroy.

God's power and glory, in Jesus we know;

And here and hereafter, the kingdom shall grow.

The kingdom of God is mercy and grace;

The captives are freed, the sinners find place,

The outcast are welcomed, God's banquet to share;

And hope is awakened, in place of despair.

The kingdom of God is challenge and choice:

Believe the good news, repent and rejoice!

God's love for us sinners brought Christ to his cross:

Our crisis of judgement, for gain or for loss.

God's kingdom is come, the gift and the goal;

In Jesus begun, in heaven made whole.

The heirs of the kingdom shall answer his call;

And all things cry "Glory!" to God …all in all.
